Kouign started the same way most good things do: on a whim.
Our story
At Kouign, pastries are meant to feel like something; comforting, surprising, nostalgic, indulgent, familiar, yet new. Every item is rooted in classic technique but shaped by creativity and a love for the flavors that linger in memory. The baking is done by feel and instinct, with deep respect for the process.
Every pastry at Kouign is part of a bigger story. The bakery partners with local farms, collaborates with local businesses, and supports fellow small business owners through wholesale, because caring for the community is just as important as baking. We believe that supporting other small businesses is essential to building a strong community.
When we lift each other up, everyone wins. By celebrating and helping our fellow small businesses thrive, we create a ripple effect of growth, creativity, and connection that benefits us all. Kouign is an extension of its founder: a love for beautiful food, a respect for craft, and a commitment to taking care of others.
Driven by passion
The owner, Chelsea Tripp has been in the industry for almost 16 years. She lived in Chicago for 10 years, honing her skills at some of Chicago’s most popular restaurants and bakeries & with a short stint in Austin, Texas. Kouign has a core group of employees that help run the bakery. Without them, Kouign would not be where it is today.
